JACK'S EUPHORIA///

i. the models with their sunken eyes, living in their own universe of spirals and waves and geometric equations. the television static becomes stationary. the day leaned toward two in the afternoon, and the sky seemed to be unaware, clouded in a membrane of grey, a spectral dust like the sleep circles of the unasleep or the asleep, which seemed only to be synonyms of the looming century.

ii. there was no absence of smoke, of soldering heat, of circumstantial dismissal. i had almost forgotten that flames travel upwards, that you can control the chaos. what was so alluring about the destruction? what made it contrast so heavily upon the monotonous drip of the falling rain against the grey concrete? why were the orange flames so beautiful as they turned paper to ash, creation to destruction, something recognizable to something obsolete?

iii. “it’s been a while since i’ve tried to destroy myself,” he confessed. has it, darling?

iv. thriving off of seductive, sensual darkness: is that so terrible? oh, would you rather blend into the grey? become the grey? consume and digest and produce the grey? i refuse. i will be light or darkness but i will not succumb to a compromise between. i will be strange and suspicious and morbid, like the codex seraphinus. i will be untranslatable, indiscernible, unreadable. if you’d like, darling, you can join me. we will create our own black hole, unseen by the ordinary, unfelt by the prosaic. we will walk in an aura of sinister wails of the violin, in twisted smiles, in the most disesteemed thoughts.

v. our prophecy is written on the walls of the abandoned trucking station, in some indistinguishable calligraphy, in some unrecognisable language. it is ours.

vi. the models walk on, stupendous in their show of fiscal surety; though it’s difficult to see them sometimes, in their dull grey stupor. but perhaps we are the ones who are blind in our own sacred oblivion.
